Effects and Setting: * Visual Spectacle: * The show excels in its visual presentation. The world of "The Wheel of Time" is brought to life with stunning landscapes, intricate costumes, and impressive visual effects. The channeling of the One Power is visually captivating, and the various locations are richly detailed. * The production design captures the diverse cultures and environments of Robert Jordan's world, from the rustic Two Rivers to the grandeur of the White Tower. The use of practical effects combined with CGI enhances the sense of realism. * World-Building: * The show's ability to establish a believable and immersive world is a strong point. The attention to detail in the costumes, sets, and overall atmosphere contributes to a sense of authenticity. Acting: * Character Performances: * The cast has delivered increasingly strong performances. The actors portraying the core characters have grown into their roles, conveying the emotional depth and complexity of their journeys. * Rosamund Pike's
portrayal of Moiraine Damodred brings a compelling blend of strength and mystery. The performances of the actors playing Rand, Perrin, Mat, Nynaeve, and Egwene have also shown significant development. * Character Development: * The actors are doing a great job of showing the growth of the characters, as they are forced to deal with the huge changes in their lives. Adaptation from the Book: * Adaptation Challenges: * Adapting such a sprawling series with numerous characters and intricate plotlines presents significant challenges. The show has made some changes to the source material, which has been a point of contention among some fans. * However, it is becoming apparent that the show is finding its stride, and is finding a better way to translate the books to the screen. * Adaptation Strengths: * The show's ability to capture the essence of the books' themes and overall narrative is a significant achievement. The core elements of the story, including the battle between light and darkness, the importance of prophecy, and the complexities of the One Power, are effectively conveyed. * The show is also doing a good job of creating compelling television, and making the show understandable to people who have not read the books. Overall: * "The Wheel of Time" is an ambitious and visually stunning fantasy series that has shown significant growth. While it has faced some challenges in adapting the complex source material, the show's strengths in world-building, visual effects, and acting make it a worthwhile watch. * As the show progresses, it is finding a better balance between staying true to the books and creating compelling television. * Therefore, with the improvements shown, and the overall quality of the production, a five star review is warranted.

I haven't read the books but know the basic gist of the first 3. As a tolkien fan and a reader of asoiaf, which this will inevitably be compared to despite pre dating Martin's work to start with, it's not fair to compare to either. Tolkien is basically a fantasy genre unto himself although filming wise stylistically i'd say this is closer to middle earth (tar valon feeling very elvish) than it is to asoiaf. I know this is 14 books whether they will cover all of them or give up once Amazon's Tolkien project is up and running I don't know, but I hope they give it a chance because it's very good. The first couple of episodes i wasn't a fan of it did feel very derivative of LOTR, well LOTR if Dr Strange was somehow added into the fellowship. But it has grown on me and despite this being a vast world that really is going to need several series for those of us not completely familiar with the books to really come to grips with, concentrating on a handful of key characters has made it more accessible and it's gone from strength to strength. Deliberately not putting any spoilers in you can search out the basic premise of the first series and decide for yourself. The show looks incredible, the dialogue is good, Rosamund Pike is scene stealer every time she appears and most importantly apart from the odd nod here and there to lotr (which game of thrones did the endless "there nothing to forgive" nod to legolas and aragorn in the two towers as an example) it feels like it's own thing and not some tribute act to more popular fantasy series. As with GoT i feel for WOT fans in regard to i am already reading some discontent at changes from the books to the show all I can say is most everything after series 4 in Game of Thrones is garbage i do not remotely expect to see in the books and even though Jordan did die before these books were completed...they were completed. I think I might be the dragon reborn by the time the winds of winter is finished...even so give it a go it's got some very unfair sniffy reviews from critics who seem to forget just how diabolical thrones was from series 5 on and I guess since Peter Jackson's LOTR is the benchmark....this isn't bad. Here is one from amazon/hbo/netflix or whomever to try....The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant....good luck with that.

I have found this "5 star review" cut and pasted in several "reviews". ...... "Ok, The wheel of time is a very amazing show based on a series of novels of the same name, which tells a story about a fantasy world and a group of people with magical powers ,trying to save it from the dark forces. There are so many great things about this show, the plot is quite interesting and fresh, specially for people who love the epic fantasy genre, and this show really hit the spot. It draws on the both European and Asian mythology, building the whole fantasy world around the believe of reincarnation, that the wheel of time always spinning, reincarnating dead people in new bodies .The cast are just brilliant, sensational Rosamund Pike is stunning and radiating as always, she plays the lead character, and she's just about enough to convince anyone to watch the show. The rest of the cast are also very good , specially a few fresh faces like Josha Stradowski ,Madeleine Madden and Barney Harris, their performances are very solid and great to watch. But maybe the spectacular visuals and really amazing action scenes are the most powerful and interesting aspects of the show, which beautifully set it apart from the similar shows. Some say that show excessively relies on the visuals and special effects but the thing is you can't blame a show for using breathtaking background scenery to make everything more colorful and interesting. They have used a considerably high budget for making the show, so beside the great cast , the action scenes are very solid and captivating, actually sometimes you forget that you're watching a series not a blockbuster movie. Having an interesting plot, with so many mysteries and twists, many good looking action scenes, and just doing an incredible job with the editing , despite the around 55 mins runtime of every episode, show would never get dull and boring, always keep you on the edge of your seats. Just enjoy ."
